Servers

SliTaz Base is a good start for a server: it boots in a few seconds, uses little memory and runs nothing you did not ask for. The SliTaz web sites themselves run on SliTaz.

SSH

The Dropbear SSH server and client are on every image. The server is not started by default:

# /etc/init.d/dropbear start
# trame service enable dropbear

The host keys are created at the first start in /etc/dropbear/. By default root cannot log in over SSH: log in as a user, then use su. The server options are in DROPBEAR_OPTIONS in /etc/daemons.conf; add -s to allow key logins only.

Connect to a machine and copy files:

$ ssh tux@192.168.1.10
$ scp file.txt tux@192.168.1.10:Documents/

For key logins, put your public key in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server. Dropbear makes keys with dropbearkey; dropbearkey -y -f key prints the public part. OpenSSH is also available (spk-add openssh, service openssh).

Web server

BusyBox includes a tiny web server, httpd, fine for static files and shell CGI. For a full web server, install Lighttpd:

# spk-add lighttpd
# trame service enable lighttpd

Lighttpd starts right after the installation and serves /var/www/ on port 80. Its configuration is /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf, with virtual hosts in /etc/lighttpd/vhosts.conf; the logs are in /var/log/lighttpd/.

# nano /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
# /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart

PHP

# spk-add php

Installing PHP also sets up Lighttpd to run .php files through FastCGI: put an index.php in /var/www/ and it works. Extensions are separate packages (php-sqlite, php-mysqli, php-pdo-pgsql...). For Nginx, use php-fpm.
